⏳ HOURGLASS
An hourglass symbolizes the constant ticking of time ⏰. With each grain of sand passing through the middle of it, the past can not be repeated, and the future 🥠 can not be sustained.
But what if an hourglass is turned on its side and the sand becomes still? 🤯 The grains of sand no longer flow through and remain resting until it is turned again. It symbolizes a stopping ✋🏻 of time, where the present ceases for a moment.
Hourglass holds the same meaning and serves the same function. It is a place to pause and rejuvenate 🧘🏻. Each person visiting Hourglass represents a grain of sand, relaxed, absorbing time 🧽, and taking a break in their day to day life 😮💨.

Whether it’s a sense of curiosity 🧐 looking at Hourglass, a passing by 🚶🏻♂️ on the way to class, or meeting up with friends 👯♂️, guests are attracted and drawn to visit and pause at Hourglass during their short free time ⏱ in busy college days 🎓.
🧘🏻 REJUVENATE
Maybe it’s the relaxing below ground geothermal 🥰 pods integrated with nature map projection 🍂, or just a quick pause to sit on the above ground heated benches 🐒 during winter to warm-up, Hourglass allows guests to rejuvenate themselves, while enjoying the beauty of the four seasons surrounding them ❄️🌸☀️🍁.
🚶🏻♂️🚶🚶🏽♀️RESUME
No matter if guests pause for ten minutes, or two hours 🕰 at Hourglass in between classes 📚, they will feel rejuvenated 🥹. When guests are ready, they can then resume their day with a refreshed set of mind 🧠.
The project was conceived by the Iowa State University Team and created for the 2017 Walt Disney Imagineering’s Imaginations Design Competition. This project is the sole property of Walt Disney Imagineering and all rights to use these ideas are exclusive to Walt Disney Imagineering. The competition is a way for students and recent graduates to showcase their talents and for Walt Disney Imagineering to identify new talent.
